THE STORY OF COLLEEN
What does a life-long animal lover do when the dreaded chemistry class stands in the way of veterinary school? For me, the answer was to take a different path. I combined my passion for animals with my love of photography to become a professional pet photographer. As a child, I mastered my 110-film camera and often used our family pets – dogs, cats, birds, rats, and fish – as my subject matter. When I took a high school photography class and borrowed my mom’s Canon AE1, I discovered my true calling. I studied photography in college and graduated with an art degree from California State University Northridge. Early in my career, I focused on photographing human subjects, but the loss of my beloved Stardust, a little black cat I had for 21 years, made me rethink my business model. I was comforted by all the great photographs – that showcased Stardust’s personality and charm –I had taken of her. The next cat I got, a Siamese named Leeloo, became my muse. With Leeloo as my model, I was able to hone my craft and refine my animal rapport to capture the spirit and essence of every pet’s unique personality.
Currently residing in Sacramento, California, I serve the entire Northern California area. I am the resident photographer for nearly all the Northern California Cat Shows. My years of experience with animals helps me to put your pet at ease so I can deliver high-quality photographs in which the character of the animal shines through. To paraphrase Will Rogers, I’ve never met an animal I didn’t like. I look forward to meeting your pet and photographing this important member of your family.
